Posted on Jan 23, 2012

A West Palm Beach taxi cab driver and resident of Lake Worth, Luis Jimenez, was killed by an impaired driver while the victim was talking to other cab drivers in the El Toro nightclub parking lot. The accident occurred on Sunday, January 8, at 1999 South Military Trail.
Twenty-six-year-old Juan Diego Martinez of Lake Worth drove into the parking lot and lost control of his 1998 Oldsmobile. He crashed into a parked car and then hit the group of cab drivers. He then hit two more parked cars before coming to a stop. Three unidentified passengers left the car and fled on foot.
Jimenez was pinned under the car and died at the scene. The other men, Julio Vazquez and Bernardo Martinez, sustained minor injuries. Vazquez was taken to JFK Medical Center.
Martinez admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana shortly before the crash. He now faces charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving without a driver’s license and causing death, two counts of DUI resulting in personal injury, and four counts of DUI causing property damage. Martinez is illegally in the United States from Mexico and was denied bail.
