Boynton Beach Man Faces DUI Charges after Delray Beach Crash
Colby Allen Brown of Boynton Beach is facing DUI charges for his role in a Delray Beach car accident that occurred on New Year's Eve. His blood alcohol level measured 0.225, almost three times the legal limit.
The Delray Beach DUI accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on December 31, 2012, at the intersection of George Bush Boulevard and North Ocean Boulevard. When Delray Beach police officers arrived at the scene, they found a Dodge Ram pickup and a Mercedes-Benz SUV. Both vehicles had sustained severe front-end damage.
Although Brown appeared impaired, he told officers that he was on his way home from a party where he had just "two beers." The officers suspected he was intoxicated and requested a blood sample.
Brown was taken to Bethesda Hospital to receive treatment for injuries. Four occupants in the other vehicle were also taken to Bethesda Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The toxicology report was obtained in January. Brown's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was 0.225. The legal limit is .08. A 150-pound man would have to drink 12 beers over four hours to reach a blood alcohol level of 0.225.
Brown was arrested on Tuesday, February 26. He has been charged with four counts of driving under the influence and causing bodily injury to another. He was held at the Palm Beach County jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
In 2010, 751 people died in Florida accidents involving impaired drivers. Alcohol-related accidents accounted for one-third of fatal crashes.
