Take "A Day Off To Vote" on Election Day 2020
Twelve U.S. states recognize Election Day (November 3, 2020) as a state holiday. Unfortunately, Florida does not.
Yet, Florida is one of the most critical states in the presidential election. It carries 29 of the 270 electoral votes that are required for a presidential candidate to win an election. As with most past presidential elections, Florida will play an important role in the upcoming election.
Rarely has a presidential candidate won an election without winning Florida's electoral votes. The last time that has happened was in 1992, and prior to that, 1924.
Election Day is not only a time to choose the next president of the United States, but also those who will represent us at the federal, state and local levels. It's also a time for voters to approve or disapprove six proposed state constitutional amendments.
Those who have tight schedules due to full-time work, commuting and family responsibilities often face challenges when it comes to voting. These obligations have made it difficult for Florida residents to find the time to vote. Many of them face long travel times to get to certain geographic locations, and face long lines.
Voters now have the option to vote-by-mail. Some have been discouraged to do so because of the declining resources of the United States Postal Service.
How can my firm or business ensure that my employees will have the time and opportunity to vote this year?
To give your employees the time and opportunity to vote in the 2020 election, you can join several other firms, including David J. Glatthorn, P.A., that are giving their employees "A Day Off to Vote."
This can include giving your employees the day off on Election Day, on an early voting day, or a few hours on a typical workday to allow them to hand-deliver their mail ballots.
Your firm or business will qualify to participate simply by giving your employees any time off so they can cast their ballots.
For more information on how your firm or business can participate in this nonpartisan, nonprofit project, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your firm or business name and contact person.
Your firm or business will be recognized on the project's Facebook page. Click here to join the "A Day Off to Vote" Facebook group, even if you are not yet participating.
