A man is recovering from serious injuries, including the loss of a leg, after stopping to help victims of a Boynton Beach car crash.
Thirty-six-year-old Angel Soto of Boynton Beach and his wife Eileen Otero were driving on Old Boynton Road at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26, when they noticed a crash just west of Congress Avenue. The accident involved two pick-up trucks: a Nissan Titan and a Chevy Avalanche. The driver of the Avalanche pulled over and parked in a nearby parking lot. The Titan stopped in the eastbound lane, facing west.
Mr. Soto parked his car and went over to the damaged Titan. The driver, 26-year-old Alexander Proscurshim, was on the ground. Soto pulled Proscurshim out of traffic and away from danger. Soto returned to the passenger side of the truck to check if anyone else was in the vehicle.
As Soto was checking the Titan, a Porsche drove by. Proscurshim screamed for the vehicle to stop, but it hit the Titan, causing the door to slam into Soto’s right leg. The leg was severed and Soto’s left foot was broken.
It was the victim’s turn to be a hero. Proscurshim took off his shirt and tied a tourniquet on Soto’s leg. He, and another driver, Susan Carson of Boynton Beach, used clothing to slow the bleeding until help arrived. Soto was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he underwent immediate surgery.
Neither the driver of the Avalanche nor the driver of the Porsche was injured.
The accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
