A Lake Worth man is dead after a tractor-trailer accident in Boca Raton.
The fatal truck accident occurred just after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, at Congress Avenue just north of Yamato Road. A 2004 Sterling tractor with a boxed trailer stopped for traffic in the southbound lanes of Congress Avenue. Twenty-nine-year-old Daniel Wilson of Lake Worth was also stopped for traffic. He stopped his 2008 Zhejiang motorcycle near the front right corner of the truck. As traffic began to move, the truck crashed into Wilson’s motorcycle. Wilson was thrown off the motorcycle and onto the road. His body was crushed by the truck’s right tires.
Wilson was taken to Delray Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The truck driver, 39-year-old Edouard Jean-Pierre of North Lauderdale was not injured.
The fatal Boca Raton truck accident is still under investigation. One question the police will ask is whether the motorcycle was in the truck driver’s blind spots. Eighteen wheelers have significant blind spots, especially on the right side. The blind spot on the right side of a truck can runs the length of the entire truck and can extend as far as three lanes.
Motorists should be aware of the blind spots of large vehicles, but this doesn’t mean that truckers are not required to check for motorcycles and other vehicles in their blind spots. Truck drivers must be trained on how to check their blind spots in order to avoid Florida truck accidents.
Boca Raton trucking accident attorney David Glatthorn would like to extend his condolences to the family and friends of Daniel Wilson.
