Two Dead after Boynton Beach Flat Tire Accident

Posted on Oct 08, 2012

Two people are dead after a swerving car crashed into a truck that was stopped for a flat tire. Four others are injured.

The Boynton Beach highway accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on Friday, September 14. A truck carrying six people had pulled into the emergency lane on I-95 near Woolbright Road in order to change a flat tire. A female driver crashed into the back of the truck. Two people were killed. Four others were injured and were taken to Delray Medical Center. One is critical condition; the others are in serious condition and are expected to recover.

Witnesses report that the car was swerving before the crash.  The driver was questioned and the accident remains under investigation.

Changing a flat tire at the side of the road can be dangerous, and flat tires are especially dangerous on a busy highway like I-95. Here are some flat-tire safety tips from Boynton Beach accident attorney David Glatthorn:

  • Look for a safe place to pull over. Try to find a place that is flat, away from steep inclines, and where there is plenty of space between your vehicle and the highway. If you can’t find a place immediately, turn on your hazard lights and pull over to the furthest right hand lane. Drive slowly until you reach a safe area.
  • Stay in your vehicle and call for help. It is safer to have a police or tow truck operator help you than to do it yourself.
  • If you must change the tire yourself, put on your parking brake and place rocks or pieces of wood under your tires to prevent your car from rolling. Put flares in front and behind your car.
